Milano illuminista
Dal trattato di Rastatt del 1714, che sancì il passaggio del ducato di Milano dagli spagnoli agli austriaci, la città avvia un grande rinnovamento urbano, guidato dalle teorie illuministe e dalla volontà di farne un caposaldo del pensiero europeo.Per un lungo periodo, fino ai piani napoleonici, Milano viene ridisegnata attraverso progetti urbanistici e architettonici che ne ripensano forma e funzioni.
Anche se una parte di questi progetti non viene realizzata, la costruzione di edifici pubblici e privati, la creazione di parchi, il ridisegno di alcune facciate di monumenti preesistenti, l’intervento sulle mura con la costruzione di porte e caselli, e la parziale attuazione del piano dei rettifili conferiscono alla città una forte identità illuminista.Milano diventa così una testimonianza concreta della coincidenza tra pensiero e opera.
Il progetto fotografico nasce dalla volontà di rappresentare questo momento storico, questa sovrapposizione tra idea e forma costruita, per riportare alla memoria un processo di costruzione civile. Il progetto è in progress..

Enlightenment Milan
Following the Treaty of Rastatt in 1714, which sanctioned the transfer of the Duchy of Milan from Spanish to Austrian rule, the city embarked on a major urban renewal, guided by Enlightenment theories and by the ambition to make it a cornerstone of European thought.
For a long period, up to the Napoleonic plans, Milan was redesigned through urban and architectural projects that rethought its form and functions.
Even though some of these projects were never fully realised, the construction of public and private buildings, the creation of parks, the redesign of the façades of earlier monuments, the interventions on the city walls with the construction of gates and tollhouses, and the partial implementation of the plan of straight boulevards all contributed to giving the city a strong Enlightenment identity.
Milan thus became a tangible testimony to the coincidence between thought and built work.
This photographic project stems from the desire to represent this historical moment, this overlap between ideas and constructed form, in order to bring back into focus a process of civic construction. The project is a work in progress.
